Below is correspondence between Bath UCU and University of Essex UCU. Our branch donated £500 to their hardship fund.
I’m as Co-President of Essex UCU as we are shortly beginning a first round of strike action to fight management’s attempt to make 400 staff redundant.
Ben Ralph kindly passed on the info about the Bath branch motion offering to donate to our strike fund and write a letter of solidarity – it would be greatly appreciated as we are facing a tremendous battle on our hands! I’d be delighted also to pass on your solidarity to the branch.
Dr Jordan Osserman
Co-President, Essex University and College Union (UCU)
Dear Jordan,
On behalf of the University of Bath UCU branch, I would like to respond to your call for financial and moral support and to offer our solidarity to all members of your branch in your dispute with university management over the devastating round of redundancies that been proposed and the closure of your Southend campus. Our branch has passed a motion without opposition to extend moral and financial support to all UCU branches requesting this, and in line with this motion we have donated £500 to your hardship fund. All of us from Bath UCU wish you strength and courage in your struggle against these cuts. Know that you have the support of UCU members across the UK: an injury to one is an injury to us all.
In solidarity,
Ben
