Our branch has signed a joint statement with the University of Bath on USS pensions.

This is the fifth joint statement we have negotiated and signed with the University about USS pensions in three years. As in the past, it is welcome as a sign that the University commits itself to a progressive position on resolving the USS dispute.

While we hope this is the last such statement needed, realisitcally UUK has a history of backsliding and moving goalposts. So as well as welcoming the University of Bath’s local commitments here, we urge members to return their ballot papers to renew our mandate for industrial action on USS pensions.

Fundraiser event for earthquake victims in Kurdistan, Wednesday 1st March 5-8PM

This coming Wednesday 1st March from 5-8PM, Bath UCU is holding a fundraiser event for earthquake victims in Kurdistan – Turkey and Syria, in the Back Room of The Bell Inn. There will be a screening of the short film Blooming in the Desert, by journalist and director Benedetta Argentieri. Filmed between late 2019 and early 2020, the short film follows three courageous protagonists, offering concrete examples of what the Women’s Movement’s has achieved in northeastern Syria, overcoming barriers that tradition had always put in their way.

There will also be poetry readings by Mina, a spoken word poet and story teller from Bristol, and an informal discussion with the Kurdistan Solidarity Network. All donations will go to directly to Heyva Sor – Kurdish Red Crescent. Come along with friends and family for an enjoyable and informative evening, and to show solidarity with those affected by the recent catastrophic events in Turkey and Syria.
